I draw inspiration from many sources but have a special fondness for natural compositions found in everyday life both at home and abroad.

                   Painting In Oils

I enjoy the flexibility that is afforded by this medium as well as the rich colours and variety of textures which can be achieved.

This particular study was commissioned by a local town councillor and was inspired by my appreciation of the work of Van Gogh.
The vibrancy of the oil allows for accurate representation of the colours found in the flowers.

                        Water Colours

A delightful medium which brings together a very different set of skills.

Taken from a photograph whilst on holiday in Devon, this is a simple rendition of part of a cottage scene which I particularily liked.

Hi,

My name is Carol Gilmore. I was born in Belfast and moved to Bangor, Northern Ireland when I was in my early teens. I have loved drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. At school I studied Art and then had to put aside my passion and get a 'real' job'. Some years later, when I found myself with some spare time, I decided to try again and have not stopped since. Although I have had no formal training I have studied with local artists who have given me the confidence to explore my passion for painting.

Artistically I have meandered my way through water colour, pencil, pen and ink and oils, but have recently been drawn more towards oils. For the past few years I have concentrated mostly on this medium but without losing touch with the other skills.

The scope of my recent works has been quite varied......wildlife, portraiture, landscape and seascapes as well as still life studies.

Drawing inspiration from a wide variety of sources I have recently created a number of paintings inspired by time spent in Crete. I was very motivated by the clarity of light, the integral beauty of the scenery as well as the warmth of the local people.

Photographic documentation plays a great part in deciding how to interpret a particular subject. The final representation on my canvas reflects my love of photography and I really enjoy that aspect of the overall process.

I would welcome enquiries regarding any of the  paintings shown on the site and am also available to discuss future commissions. This can, either be from existing photos or by visiting the subject matter in person.
